Description

‘Happy Home’ is a watercolour painting of the lounge room in the home of UK textile designer, Molly Mahon. Molly is known for her distinctive block printed designs, with an Indian influence. This room features a number of her designs, but in my painting they are in a very simplified form given the small scale. I have painted this piece using Kuretake watercolours, Unipin fineliner for the outlines, and a little Lisilinka gold watercolour on Arches 300gsm cold press watercolour paper. I wanted to carry the cheerfulness of Molly’s colour and pattern outside the room, adding a soft blue ticking stripe, and painting the pre-cut matt with a simplified version of Molly’s Moghul design in yellow. The result is a delightfully warm room, that is sure to make you happy just looking at it.
