About
Heather Brown is from Melbourne, Australia, and now resides in Australia’s southern-most state, Tasmania. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy through Deakin University and is a self-taught artist. Although Heather has had a life-long interest in both academic writing and art, she has only just returned to art-making, taking up painting in various mediums and mixed media in 2023.
Heather works with a variety of mediums in different styles, overall aiming to make what she calls simply ‘happy art’: art that captivates the eye and evokes joy and delight in the viewer.
These include bright, often highly patterned room interiors with an illustrative feel in gouache or watercolour, humorous collages combining magazine clothing advertisements with text, 3 dimensional dioramas (think theatre sets) of scenes from popular children’s books using fabric and paper, usually with an LED light that turns off and on making the scene into a magical and practical night-light, realistic still life pencil drawings, and most recently, bold stylized semi abstract still life, abundant with pattern and splashes of shimmering gold.
