Description
In this category, I make one-off piece of art using magazine images of a house, cut out the exterior, and lay fabric underneath the cut out. I then build up a garden from a variety of magazine images to create a fantastical Alice-in-wonderland, or gingerbread house look. Double page spreads have a centre line, which I try to minimise a much as possible.
‘Cinderella’s Castle’ is a one-off mixed media collage made from a double-page magazine spread glued on 5mm thick white foam core board. It reminds me of the castle in the film ‘Ever After’, with its rustic simple charm. I cut away the walls and roof of the castle and glued some lovely pink fabric behind for the walls, and red polka dot for the roof. I then pretty much used up my stock of ‘littles’ – magazine images of small bouquets to create a garden full of flowers. I stuck down more trees to the left of the castle to cover the title of the magazine feature. I have tried to conceal the centre line of the double-page as much as possible. It’s an imperfect, and adds to the hand-made charm.
Paper Size 30 x 42cm. It would suit a standard A3 opening mount when framing.
