Description
‘Winter Hibernation’ is an original watercolour painting based on a reference photo by @lesleemitchell. The brown check on walls and ceiling to me, made it feel earthy, like an underground burrow, which made me think of Mole’s home in Wind in the Willows. So of course, I painted a forest scene enveloping the bedroom. I chose strong blues to complement the brown and create a feeling of winter , using the 17thC tapestry ‘Jardin D’Usses’ for inspiration for the style of leaf canopy. Continuing the winter forest theme, I have painted the matt blue, and added sparkly silver watercolour stars, (or maybe they are sparkly snowflakes?).
Kuretake watercolours, Unipin fineliner and Faber Castell watercolour pencils on Arches 300gsm cold press watercolour paper, and precut matt.
